hangar nearby was owned by aviator Harry Jones, who used it from 1912 on.
The Burgess Aeroplane plant, located in Marblehead Massachusetts, was

name visible on hull) tethered at Mines Field in the Los Angeles area on 26
August 1929, on its worldwide tour sponsored by publisher William Randolph

PITTSBURGH AIRWAYS (USA). Regular-size postcard

"R-100"
(uncaptioned, so we used the name of the airship itself) moored to a mast at
St-Hubert airport, Longueuil near Montréal, August 1930,
having established a distance record for a
westward flight of an airship with passengers; postcard mailed at Montreal
Québec on AUG 20 1930 to Mr. T. W Scattergood in Lansdowne Pennsylvania,
trivial corner wear, light rubber band mark down center of the back obscures
nothing. Rare: the absence of attribution to a photographer or publisher &
the lack of caption indicate this is probably a one-of-a-kind from an
amateur photographer. [In contrast, professional photographers all managed
to get side views to fill out their horizontal-format cards; such cards were
intended to be printed in quantity.] $40.00 bq(l)a
"R-100 // Anchored to Mooring Mast,
/ at St. Hubert Airport, / Montreal. August 1930. // Amarré au mat d'ancrage à /
l'aéroport de St-Hubert, Montréal. Août 1930."
having established a distance record
for a westward flight of an airship with passengers;
postcard mailed in Quebec, light
toning. Most of the
crowd seen here sat through the previous night, not knowing exactly when R-100
would arrive. Printing quality is not the best but it is rare. We found no other offers, recorded sales, or exhibits when we
searched the Internet. Other postcard scenes of this mooring do not have the
airship as close-up as this one, nor do they properly or so effectively convey the size of the
ship by inviting comparison to the vehicles & people on the ground. Historic
& rare. Sold but front
side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged 300-dpi scan
(publication quality) in .jpg format for $3.75. q(s)ba
"R-100 at the mooring mast. /
Souvenir St-Hubert - 1930" on its first transatlantic voyage from Great Britain,
a crowd of spectators nearby; post card with partial Grondines Québec hand

one upper corner, otherwise excellent
condition. St-Hubert is an
airport, near Montreal Québec. [Grondines is now a part of the merged Deschambault-Grondines
municipality.] Most of the crowd seen here sat throughout the
previous night, not knowing exactly when R-100 would arrive. Rare. When searching the Internet we found no other offers of this
image, only 1 recorded sale (in deplorable condition, R-100 misinterpreted &
location misidentified as being in Vermont!), and no exhibitions. $72.00 q(s)za
