    "Gruss aus Czernowitz" showing the corner signage of Jacob Buchbinder prominently, street repair & curb finishing at the corner, and 'Entw. / Baumst. Bochner' on the sidewalk & completed curb nearby. [The latter translates from German as 'Entwickler / Baumeister Bochner' or 'Developer / Master Builder Bochner'.] The Bochners were one of the first documented Jews in Bukovina, and Czernowitz is the major city of Bukovina. Buchbinder is the name of a Jewish banker in Czernowitz at that time. And thus this postcard depicts the Jewish bank building which was completed on the Ringstrasse there in 1899. An interview published by the Columbus Jewish Historical Society puts the Spira's as the only Jewish family in Centerburg at the time, with the nature of their business uncertain.
