WOODEN POSTCARDS & WOOD POST CARDS
"All a-board for the World's Fair. Arrived safe. / Exposition is more than oak-a, is ash-tonishing; / you cedar sights of your life..." long message with numerous puns on a wood theme from Farran Zerbe, with the Louisiana Souvenir Gold dollar (legal tender at the expo) depicted in purple on the bottom, mailed to Columbus Ohio with a well-centered 1-c stamp commemorating the Expo. Seal of the Louisiana Purchase Company as the corner card on the stamp side. Dark wood but quite attractive. Sold but back still available for scholarly study & research as a full-size & enhanced 72-dpi scan in .jpg format. $1.50 enw-n
"Belgian Troops in / Action Round Louvain" behind a barricade, defending the main road to Louvain & Brussels; unused post card numbered W. C. A. 146 on back, trivial corner & edge wear, very light toning on back. $5.00 bmw
"Everything / I like is / either / IMMORAL / ILLEGAL / or / FATTENING" picturing a drunk holding a bottle & propped up against a lamp post; wood postcard with scalloped edges as issued, mailed in Toledo Ohio with a 3-c Liberty stamp (minor damage) to Peggy & Earnest Little in Columbus, large scrapes on back but little obscured. $2.00 wa*
"GREETINGS / FROM: / ERNIE CONRAD'S / BARBER SHOP / AND EVELYN / / Sunbury, Pa." wooden postcard whose back advertises the collecting interests of the proprietor, dated 1981 Holiday season on the back, near mint. $7.50 bpwg*
"If at FIRST / You Don't / Succeed / You're / Running about / AVERAGE!" with red & green & black lettering & art, unused wooden postcard, made in Japan, scalloped vertical edges, ribbon through 2 top holes from which it could be hung (say, on a nail), toned area on back from price sticker (a smaller original price sticker remains). $4.00 w
"SOUVENIR OF / LANCASTER, OHIO // VACATION TO ME / IS NO PROBLEM -- / AS IT IS TO OTHER MEN / MY WIFE / TELLS ME / WHERE TO GO / AND MY EMPLOYER WHEN" unused wood post card, made in Japan, scalloped vertical edges, ribbon through 2 top holes for hanging. Cartoon art depicts man with calendar & man with bags. $5.00 wo
Two unused wooden post cards showing Native American art in dark green, both from Vandercraft in Prineville Oregon. Had to be mailed with first-class stamps, because hand-canceling was necessary. The pair would be attractive displayed together. Crook County history involves several skirmishes with Native Americans, so the designs are a bit ironic. $8.00 gets both. wo
"W6MRV" small wooden San Francisco shortwave (21.200 mc) QSL mailed 1971 at Daly City, small hole provided by sender to facilitate hanging. Most unusual. From Louis Perasso. QSL card sold. Still available for scholarly study & genealogical research as a full-size & enhanced 72-dpi scan in .jpg (148,430 bytes) or .tif format. $1.50 cwg
"With / Christmas / Greetings" a design of holly, wooden tree ornament in the size of the the vintage postcard from which its design is reproduced, a lot of silver & gold glitter added, ribbon to hang intact but whose 2 loose ends are a bit frayed, back is plain. Made in China. $3.75 wcg
"WORLD'S FAIR / SOU-VENEER POST CARD FROM FOREST PARK. / Arrived Safely. Weather like the beach, no need for palm / fans--never saw-dust so scarce. Met friends from Ash-tabula..." long message with numerous puns on a Samuel Cupples Envelope Co., mailed by Will Macoubrie September 7th 1904 to Olathe Kansas but stamp removed, fancy back with standing lady in Art Nouveau style. $70.00 (ew)
"YOU'LL HAVE TO HURRY IN OKLAHOMA CITY" wooden postcard mailed at Emporia Kansas to Hillsboro Ohio with a 2-cent stamp, 2 holes for display as issued, tiny chip off the left front edge, creased vertically. Yes, we said creased, perhaps having aroused the ire of a Native American -- seeing is believing! $2.75 wo
